How to Make Affogato (Espresso Over Ice Cream)

Affogato is an easy and quick dessert to pair with any Italian meal. The bitterness of the hot espresso pairs perfectly with the sweet and creamy ice cream.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 shots espresso
  • 2 scoops vanilla ice cream or gelato
  • chocolate bar optional

Instructions
 

  • Brew the espresso using your preferred method.
  • Place 2 scoops of ice cream in a cup and pour the espresso over the ice cream. Garnish with shaved chocolate if desired and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Freeze the glass for 30 minutes before serving so the ice cream doesn't melt as easily. Not required but it helps!
  • Spike it with a splash of Baileys Irish cream, bourbon, salted caramel whiskey, or amaretto for a boozy punch.
  • Top it with with chocolate chips or shavings, caramel, crushed hazelnuts, pistachio, peanuts, or peppermint candy.
