There's nothing like "welcome home" like a homemade housewarming gift. Your friend is going to love these 10 "warm" gifts to celebrate their new home!

    The Inspiration

My in laws just moved and we wanted to gift them something to celebrate their new home! I searched the Internet to gather some ideas and it came up with the traditional items you would expect.

Right before bed one night, I kept juggling ideas and thought, why not play on the "warm" part of a housewarming gift?

I had so much fun designing this DIY basket and loved that each "warm" gift can be customized to your friend's personality and tastes.

This homemade housewarming gift basket can be as a affordable or gourmet as you'd like.

To explain each gift, print out labels and tie them around each item or do what I did and list them in a card.

    1. Wine to make the body warm.

Gift your friend's favorite bottle of wine, liquor, or beer! Or gift them something they haven't tried before but you think they'd like.

Champagne, of course, is always a good choice to celebrate a new home!

    1. Popcorn for warm and cuddly movie nights.

Homemade popcorn is so easy to make and this pint jar goes a long way!

Just add one to two tablespoons in a large pot and cover it with just enough oil- half canola oil and half extra virgin olive oil.

Place the lid on and cook the popcorn on medium heat while using the handles on the pot to move it around until all the popcorn is popped.

Season with salt and drizzle with melted butter if desired.

Of course, you can use already cooked popcorn or even caramel corn!

    1. S'mores to enjoy by the warm fire.

I knew my recipient had a firepit so I thought a s'mores kit would be a delicious and fun idea.

If your giftee doesn't have a firepit, you could use a more general gift like a blanket to "stay warm."

    1. Photo frame to display warm memories.

Find a photo of your friend on social media with someone they love or include a photo of you and the giftee to make it even more personable!

    1. Apron to make a warm dinner.

An oven mitt, pot holder, trivet, wooden spoon, pasta, marinara sauce, or olive oil would also work!

    1. Candle for a warm scent.

I picked up this super cute pumpkin candle from Home Goods. Pick a scent you think your friend would love or something relevant to the season you're in.

Instead of a candle you could also gift a reed diffuser, spray, essential oil, wax melt, or a candle warmer.

    1. Hot chocolate to warm the soul on a rainy day.

I loved making this hot chocolate jar layered with sugar, cocoa powder, marshmallows, and chocolate chips. All they have to do is add hot milk!

You could also do coffee or tea.

    1. Jam for a warm breakfast.

Originally, I put spam in the basket but it didn't fit the aesthetic so I went with homemade jam in a mason jar! You could also do pancake mix or maple syrup.

    1. Coasters to set down your warm drink.

A cute mug would also be cute!

    1. Warm rustic bread.

There's nothing like a fresh loaf of bread! This no knead rustic bread and crusty cranberry walnut bread are both so easy to make and delicious!

Where can I find a gift basket?

You can find gift baskets at Goodwill or a craft store. Pantry storage baskets can also be used.

How do you arrange a housewarming gift basket?

Prop up the items in the gift basket with filler like shredded paper, tissue paper, or Easter grass about three quarters of the way high or more depending on the size of your items. The filler will support each item and make them stand out.

In my case, I used kitchen towels and placed tissue paper on top.

Arrange the items by placing the largest items in the back, then medium, and smallest items in the front. Play around with it and see what works!

Fill any empty spaces with more filler.

To achieve the classic housewarming basket look, wrap the basket with cellphone or tulle, and finish it off with a ribbon. This will help keep everything in place. I opted to keep the basket open.
