This next level hot honey pizza is savory with a hint of sweetness. Loaded with pepperoni, dolloped with basil ricotta cheese, and drizzled with hot honey. This pizza is addicting!
The Inspiration
I'm always looking to try something new and was intrigued when I saw the "Mike & Roni" pizza at Spizzico Italian Kitchen in Arnold, MD.
I loved the saltiness of the pepperoni and cheese combined with the slight sweetness of ricotta, the freshness of basil, and the sweet heat from the hot honey.
Why You'll Love this Recipe
- The combination of flavors is magical. Sweet, salty, and spicy.
- The textures of the crisp, chewy crust, paired with the melty gooey cheese, and fluffy ricotta make this pizza even more magical.
- It's pizza. Period.
Ingredients
- Pizza dough- You can use homemade pizza dough or buy it at the store.
- Marinara sauce- Pizza sauce works as well. I like to reduce my marinara sauce to make it thicker for pizzas!
- Mozzarella cheese- I like using a blend of mozzarella and provolone cheese. You could even sprinkle in some parmesan.
- Ricotta cheese- I love the airy texture of the cheese.
- Basil- The basil brings a freshness to the pizza. Fresh oregano, parsley, or thyme would also be delicious.
- Pepperoni- Sausage, bacon, prosciutto, or salami would be yummy. You can also leave it out for a vegetarian pizza.
- Hot honey- Homemade hot honey is so easy to make. In a pinch, you could drizzle honey and red pepper flakes on top of the pizza.

FAQs
I store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. I also freeze extras in a freezer bag for up to a month.
Our favorite way to reheat leftover pizza is in the toaster oven. Put the slices directly on the grates and bake at 350°F for 8-10 minutes until the crust is crispy and cheese is melty. You can also reheat in a dry skillet on medium heat with a cover to help the cheese melt.

Hot Honey Pepperoni Ricotta Pizza
Ingredients
- 1 pizza dough
- ¾ cup marinara sauce
- 2 cups mozzarella cheese or a mix with provolone cheese
- 15 pepperoni slices
- ⅓ cup ricotta cheese
- 1 tablespoon fresh basil chopped, more for garnish
- 2 tablespoons hot honey
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 550°F or the highest temperature your oven can go.
- Dust the pizza dough with a little flour and stretch into a 14 inch circle with a 1 inch crust slightly thicker. If using a pizza steel/stone, place the dough onto a piece of parchment paper placed on a pizza peel or upside-down baking sheet. You can also dust a pizza peel with cornmeal instead of using parchment paper. If you're not using a pizza steel/stone, dust a baking sheet with flour or cornmeal and place the dough directly onto the baking pan.
- Spread marinara sauce on the pizza, leaving 1 inch around the sides for the crust.
- Sprinkle mozzarella cheese and pepperoni on top.
- In a small bowl, mix the ricotta cheese with fresh basil and dollop teaspoons full on the pizza.
- Bake the pizza for 10 minutes or until the cheese is lightly browned and crust is golden. If using a pizza steel/stone, remove the parchment paper 2 minutes into cooking. Rotate the pizza halfway into baking to cook evenly.
- Garnish with fresh basil and drizzle with hot honey.
