Crispy green beans coated in a light and airy tempura style batter. Serve with zesty ranch dressing for the perfect appetizer or alternative to fries!
Green beans are one of my favorite vegetables to cook with because they're so versatile. I'm looking forward to growing them in my garden this summer!
These fries are inspired by the Habit Burger Grill's tempura green beans. Serve these with a juicy burger or sandwich and feel slightly less guilty about it!
I bet these would also be good on top of a salad, acting like croutons.
Why You'll Love this Recipe
- It's super easy to make with minimal ingredients.
- It has a light crispy coating.
- It's the perfect accompaniment to burgers, sandwiches or as a party appetizer!
Ingredients
How to Make Deep Fried Green Beans
- Heat a large skillet with 1 inch of oil to 375°F.
- While the oil is preheating, mix flour, water, and seasonings in a shallow bowl until smooth.
- Dip the string beans in the batter, letting the excess drip off, and fry for 5 minutes until golden brown.
- Drain on a wire rack and serve with your favorite dipping sauce!
Tasty Tips
- Fry in batches. Don't overcrowd the pan or the temperature of the oil will drop too low resulting in a less crispy coating.
- Drain on a wire rack. Paper towels work but a wire rack allows air to flow and excess oil to drain through, preventing a soggy coating.
- Serve it with your favorite dipping sauce! I used ranch but you can also dip this in spicy mayo, honey mustard, garlic aioli, or sweet chili sauce.
FAQs
Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the fridge or in the freezer for a month.
It's best to enjoy these fresh but you can refry for a couple minutes or use an air fryer. Air fry at 400°F for 3-5 minutes, flipping halfway through.
I don't recommend using frozen or canned green beans as the texture of the green bean might be too soft. In addition, the excess moisture may prevent the tempura batter from sticking to the green bean.
