Tender cabbage and onions fried in smoky bacon grease and topped with crispy bacon. The perfect 20 minute side dish to serve with any meal.

    The Inspiration

During St. Patrick's Day, I was trying to think of a way to cook the cabbage without boiling it with corned beef.

So, I thought of these maple soy brussels sprouts in which I've made variations to by adding onions and bacon.

I crisped up some bacon, then fried the cabbage, onions, and seasonings and voila!

First of all, anything with bacon automatically tastes amazing, am I right? You can't go wrong.

The smoky bacon grease infuses into the cabbage and caramelizes the onion ever so slightly and brings out the sweetness in the cabbage and onions.

I kept the seasoning simple with paprika, garlic powder, salt and pepper because you don't need much to make this dish delicious!

The crispy bacon bits add savory-ness and texture to the tender cabbage.

I love this recipe and make it all the time because it really elevates cabbage into a whole new dimension.

I hope you give this recipe a try and maybe add it to your regular meal plans!

    • It has smoky, sweet and savory flavors! We're talking umami level here.

    Ingredients

    • Bacon- pork bacon is best to ensure it crisps up and there is enough fat to fry the cabbage.
    • Onion- You can use yellow sweet onion, white onions, red onions, or shallots.
    • Green cabbage- the star of the dish. You can also replace some of the cabbage with shredded carrots.
    • Paprika- smoked paprika would be even better.
    • Garlic powder- or 2 cloves of fresh minced garlic added during the last few minutes of cooking.
